AU Virtual Console Pricing Revealed
How much will you be paying for retro gaming?
by Patrick Kolan, IGN AU
Australia, November 2, 2006 - Antiquated though they are, Nintendo's 20 years worth of gaming is still wholly playable and enjoyable. What is more, with the advent of Wii's Virtual Console system, you can sift through Nintendo's back catalogue of titles for your favourites. But what will be available and how much will you be forking out?

In Australia, 26 Virtual Console games will be available in December, including 16 Nintendo titles and 10 classic Sega Mega Drive games. Specifically, the following games will be available in December:

NES: 500 Wii Points (approximately AU$7.50)
Baseball, Donkey Kong, Donkey Kong Jr., Ice Hockey, Mario Bros., Pinball, Soccer, Solomon's Key (Tecmo), Tennis, The Legend of Zelda, Urban Champion, Wario's Woods.

SNES: 800 Wii Points (approximately AU$12.00)
Donkey Kong Country, F-Zero, SimCity.

N64: 1000 Wii Points, (approximately AU$15.00)
Super Mario 64

Sega Mega Drive: 800 Wii Points (approximately AU$12.00)
Sonic the Hedgehog, Altered Beast, Golden Axe, Columns, Gunstar Heroes, Ecco the Dolphin, Space Harrier II, Toe Jam & Earl, Ristar, Dr. Robotonik's Mean Bean Machine.

Stored on the Wii's internal flash memory, these titles can be downloaded using Wii Points. For those familiar with Microsoft's Xbox 360 Points system, this will seem comfortably similar. Wii Points Cards will be available to buy in retail stores and are estimated to retail at around AU$30.00 for 2000 Wii Points.

Interestingly, Nintendo has also mentioned that the cost of these games (in Wii points) may shift in 2007, which indicates that perhaps Nintendo is still gauging the right price point for their Virtual Console releases.
