Please Note: You may use this thread if you have yet to get Brawl as well, so this is something you'll find helpful when you get your own copy over in UK and Australia.
For those who have yet to unlock characters and are finding Adventure Mode: Subspace Emissary very long... You've come to the right place. Some have already unlocked everyone or close to everyone and won't tell you how. You look it up and find out there are ways to unlock them that seem a little bit of a time consumer. Well, for those that do or do not know, ALL characters can be unlocked by a specific amount of VS Matches. You will have to go: Data > Brawl Records > Offline VS Matches.
Those are what counts to see where you are to unlocking the next fighter.
This is the list BY AMOUNT OF BRAWLS REQUIRED TO UNLOCK:
Ness - 5 VS Matches Marth - 10 VS Matches Luigi - 22 VS Matches Falco - 50 VS Matches Captain Falcon - 70 VS Matches Lucario - 100 VS Matches Snake - 130 VS Matches R.O.B. (Robot) - 160 VS Matches
Ganondorf - 200 VS Matches Mr. Game & Watch - 250 VS Matches Sonic - 300 VS Matches Jigglypuff - 350 VS Matches Toon Link - 400 VS Matches Wolf - 450 VS Matches
Now, there ARE quicker ways to unlocking a couple of them, Snake, you just play VS Mode on his stage about 15 times and you can fight him, so it's not a lot of matches period, a few of them just beat classic mode, Captain Falcon you can just take on Classic Mode in Solo with anyone you're good with and he's bound to come. Falco's the same as he was in Melee (100 Multi-man melee), Ganondorf will be easy to get for those who love to use Link or Zelda, just beat Classic Mode on hard with Link/Zelda and he's definite to come unless you run into Luigi or Captain Falcon first. Luigi you just beat Classic (doesn't matter on difficulty, Easy would be the fastest way) without continuing. Marth, you can continue how many you want, but you must complete Classic mode with anyone on any difficulty.
NOW, some people may already know this little trick that will get you most if not all the hidden characters on the first day you play. But not many people would want you to know, they'll most likely trail off or say something without directly answering your question. Here's the trick:
First, you must go into the Special Brawl, they count toward your needed amount of VS Matches. Next, set it on Light Gravity (easier to knock away, right?), next you must set it so there is the Flower on the head, set it on Fast Speed Brawl and move onto the rules. Where you go to the character selection screen, set it up on 1 Stock Match, Damage Ratio 2.0 (this makes the attacks able to knock you and your opponent farther with ease.
Now set the stages to Random than chosen so that it's even faster.
Now you may select team battle, you with 2 level 9 computers (anyone, your choice of favorites or status) against 1 level 1 computer (I would suggest Random to make it more interesting than stale). If you insist, you may select Kirby as he's the lightest of the basic roster.
There you go, just keep pressing start after the match is over and before you start the battle, you may choose whenever to check up on how many VS Matches you want. But be warned, this requires patience, and I believe it's greatly rewarding at the end. By unlocking ROB you get the next set of events so that can get you more stages. There's only 41 events anyways so it's something to do after.
