Wii Homebrew... Shutdown?
Yesterday (or today, ore 2 days ago depending on where you live) Nintendo released the System Menu update 4.2. What does this update do? well, System Menu 4.0 added SDHC support, the SD Card Menu, and Wii Speak support. System Menu 4.1 fixed a major bug in Wii Sports resort that cause the game to crash before it even began. 4.2 must do something, Right?
Well, System Menu 4.2 is Nintendo's declaration of war on the Homebrew Community. This update will hunt down The Homebrew Chanel, BootMii, and Preloader, (the Wii's major Homebrew Triangle, with out there, Homebrew is imposable as of yet) and brutally murder them and their families (files known a cIOS's that allow for Homebrew game and pirated copies of games to run).
This is rumored to be in responce to 2 new hacks that have been released recently that allow the Homebrew Channel to be installed: Smash Stack (which allows a person to install and run homebrew rather safely by using Super Smash Bros Brawl) and Indiana Pwns (the same as the former, only using Lego Indiana Jonas to hack). Oddly, both of these hacks are unaffected and only BannerBomb (a hack that does what Smash Stack and Indiana Pwns can do, only through the System Menu, eliminating the need to purchase a game.) has been rendered useless.
So, now that BannerBomb has gone the way of the Twilight Hack, where does the Homebrew comunity stand? Thats what I'm asking you, what is your opinion on Homebrew and Nintendo's copy-cat of Sony's anti-homebrew movement?
(also, yes, my Wii is hacked and sits proudly on System Menu 4.1)
